For three generations, the Cluizel family has evolved amidst fragrances of chocolate. With the help of skilled cacaofeviers®, confectioners and chocolate makers, the family carries on with their tradition, where everything started: in Damville, Normandy.

The Manufacture Cluizel developed a direct, sustainable relation with cocoa planters. This fair commitment is a pledge of quality. A  genuine, natural taste, this is what the self demanding chocolatier always strives for. To achieve this, cocoa beans are fermented according to a skillfully controlled technique at the planter’s premises. Then, everything is made at the Manufacture Cluizel: from the slow roasting process that perfectly reveals all the cocoa flavours, to the subtle decorations which are often handmade. This results in a range of tastes from unique soils, emphasized by traditional or innovative recipes: Michel Cluizel’s chocolates.

Fair and lasting trade relations with planters

At Manufacture Cluizel, we have endeavored to find renowned plantations in the most reputable cocoa-producing countries, in order to create “1ers Crus de Plantation”®. This specific approach enables us to find the best cocoa beans in the world and to guarantee the best possible cocoa traceability. Our “1ers Crus de Plantation”® chocolates intensify the aromatic potential of each terrain through an adequate manufacturing process and a unique production skill. They enable us to create an intense aromatic range.

Safeguarding our Environment
Manufacture Cluizel attests to good sustainable forest management practices. For its packaging, Manufacture Cluizel requires compliance with the ISO 9001, 14001, OHSAS 18001 and BRC standards relating to finished product quality management systems, and in particular guaranteeing “food contact” certification.

The Cluizel Quality Commitment

All the products that are made in our workshops, all the dark, ivory and milk chocolates bear the “NOBLE INGREDIENTS” commitment seal. Since 1999, Michel Cluizel has been making chocolates that bear a quality commitment found nowhere else in the world: the “Noble Ingredient” commitment. A noble ingredient is an ingredient that is carefully selected and meets all the quality criteria. This means that all chocolates are made using:
• Pure cocoa butter
• No added vegetable fat (other than cocoa butter)
• No added artificial or natural flavoring
• Genuine Bourbon vanilla bean
• Sugar
• No soy


Most chocolates are hand coated and hand decorated. And our recipes are designed using as little sugar as possible, in order to enhance chocolate flavors. Strict selection of fruit used in chocolate making also brings exceptional taste quality to our products. With our products, we offer the guarantee of pure cocoa butter, flavoring-free and soy-free bonbons.
Our inimitable, traditional–style praliné is made with roasted almonds and/or hazelnuts, cooked in copper kettles with caramelized sugar and then ground at will. Minimum 50% of almonds and / or hazelnuts.
